Document Processing Disclaimer

Last updated: May 13, 2026

Scanner PDF: Scan & Edit ("Scanner PDF") provides tools to scan, convert, edit, sign, and organize documents. Please read this disclaimer carefully before relying on any output generated by the App for legal, financial, professional, or otherwise critical purposes.

1. The App Provides Tools, Not Guarantees

Scanner PDF is a productivity tool. It helps you digitize and work with documents faster and more conveniently. However, the App does not guarantee perfect accuracy in any of its processing operations. You are responsible for reviewing every output before relying on it for any purpose that matters.

2. OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

Important: OCR is never 100% accurate. Always proofread extracted text before using it in legal, financial, or contractual contexts.

Scanner PDF uses Apple's on-device Vision Framework to extract text from scanned documents and images. While modern OCR is highly accurate under good conditions, results can vary based on:

  • Image quality: blurry, dark, or low-resolution photos produce less reliable text.
  • Handwriting: handwritten text is far less reliable than printed text and may produce significant errors.
  • Font and size: stylized fonts, very small text, or decorative typography may not be recognized correctly.
  • Language and special characters: accents, symbols, mathematical notation, and rare languages can produce errors.
  • Skew, shadows, and lighting: documents not photographed flat or under poor lighting produce errors.
  • Multi-column layouts: tables, columns, or complex layouts may be reordered incorrectly.

You must review and verify all OCR output before relying on it. Scanner PDF and its developers are not responsible for any loss, damage, or consequence resulting from errors in extracted text.

3. Digital Signatures

Important: A signature drawn with your finger or Apple Pencil in Scanner PDF is NOT a qualified electronic signature under EU eIDAS regulation or equivalent laws in other jurisdictions. Its legal validity depends entirely on context, document type, and the laws of your country.

Scanner PDF allows you to add a hand-drawn signature to PDFs using your finger or Apple Pencil. This is a simple electronic signature suitable for everyday informal use (signing a receipt, completing a form, confirming a delivery). It is NOT the same as:

  • Qualified electronic signatures (QES): regulated under EU eIDAS, requiring specific certified providers, identity verification, and cryptographic certificates.
  • Notarized signatures: requiring a notary public and physical presence in most jurisdictions.
  • Witnessed signatures: required for wills, certain real estate transactions, and other legally sensitive documents.

Before using a signature created in Scanner PDF on a legally binding document, you should verify whether a simple electronic signature is sufficient in your jurisdiction and for the specific document type. For contracts of significant value, real estate transactions, legal proceedings, employment agreements, or any document requiring certified signatures, you should use a qualified electronic signature provider or sign in person.

We are not responsible for the legal validity, enforceability, or acceptance of any document signed using Scanner PDF.

4. PDF Conversions (PDF to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Important: Converted documents may lose formatting, structure, or content. Always verify the converted file before sharing it.

When you convert a PDF to another format (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, TXT, etc.), the resulting file is a best-effort reconstruction of the original. Conversion accuracy depends on:

  • The complexity of the original PDF (text-only PDFs convert better than those with complex layouts).
  • Whether the PDF contains scanned images vs. native text.
  • Embedded fonts, custom typography, and special characters.
  • Tables, forms, charts, and graphics.
  • Multi-column layouts, headers, footers, and page numbering.

Some loss of fidelity is normal and expected. Before sending a converted document to a client, employer, or institution, you should:

  • Open the converted file and review it page by page.
  • Verify that all text, numbers, and formatting are correct.
  • Adjust manually anything that did not convert properly.

Scanner PDF is not responsible for errors, omissions, or formatting losses in converted documents.

5. Scanning of Identity Documents and Sensitive Materials

Important: You are responsible for how you handle scans of identity documents, financial records, medical records, and other sensitive materials.

Many users will use Scanner PDF to scan identity documents (ID cards, passports, driver's licenses), financial documents (invoices, tax returns, bank statements), medical records, and other sensitive materials. These scans are stored locally on your device and never uploaded to our servers.

However, you are solely responsible for:

  • Ensuring you have the legal right to scan and process the documents you handle.
  • Protecting these scans from unauthorized access (using your device's passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID).
  • Sharing them only with parties who have a legitimate need to access them.
  • Following all applicable laws regarding the handling of identity documents and personal data, including but not limited to GDPR, CCPA, and local data protection regulations.
  • Refraining from any unlawful use, including identity fraud, document forgery, or any form of impersonation.

Scanner PDF must not be used to manipulate or falsify official documents, including identity documents, contracts, certificates, or any document with legal significance. Doing so is illegal in most jurisdictions and may result in criminal charges.

6. Document Editing and Alterations

Scanner PDF provides tools to annotate, edit text, add elements, merge, split, and modify PDF documents. While these tools are designed for legitimate use (filling forms, adding notes, organizing documents), you are responsible for ensuring that any edits you make:

  • Do not misrepresent the original content of an official document.
  • Do not violate the rights of the document's author or owner.
  • Do not constitute forgery, fraud, or any other unlawful act.
  • Are clearly disclosed when appropriate (for example, marking a document as a draft or as an annotated copy).

7. Not a Substitute for Professional Services

Scanner PDF is a productivity tool, not a legal, financial, or professional document service. Do not rely on Scanner PDF for:

  • Drafting or executing legally binding contracts without professional review.
  • Filing tax returns, legal documents, or regulatory filings without proper verification.
  • Replacing the services of a lawyer, notary, accountant, or other licensed professional.
  • Making critical business, legal, or financial decisions based solely on output produced by the App.

For matters of legal, financial, or professional significance, always consult a qualified expert.

8. Your Responsibility

By using Scanner PDF, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • OCR output, converted documents, and signed documents may contain errors or omissions.
  • You are responsible for reviewing and verifying every output before relying on it.
  • You are responsible for the lawful and ethical use of the App.
  • Scanner PDF and its developers are not liable for any loss, damage, legal consequence, or any other harm resulting from your use of the App's output.
  • The App is provided as-is for personal productivity purposes only.
